Hey folks. I finally got around to going to report the slow fixpackages |
2 |
problem I reported to -user a while back and found this bug |
3 |
(http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27421) already there, but set to |
4 |
WONTFIX. I'm not sure if SpanKY understood the problem. |
5 |
|
6 |
Basically one one of my boxes (k7-900, 512mb) fixpackages runs fast. The |
7 |
"." phase zips by and then the "*" phase goes at about the same speed. |
8 |
The other box that I have running gentoo (cel-533, 128mb ram) runs the |
9 |
"." phase almost as fast, but the "*" phase runs about one "*" a minute |
10 |
or two. Updates can take literally hours on this system, and seem to be |
11 |
getting slower all the time. |
12 |
|
13 |
As I recall, fixpackages is just moving files around or something right? |
14 |
The files can't be that big. The / is RAID0 on 2x2G scsi drives, older |
15 |
ones, with only 5mb/s transfer rate, 10mb/s with the RAID, but still, |
16 |
the time taken seems stupidly slow on this box compared my other one. I |
17 |
know that if everyone was getting this there'd be uproars (or so I'd |
18 |
think). |
19 |
|
20 |
Should I resubmit the bug, or is there anything that anyone can think of |
21 |
to help fix this. I'll probably try putting another drive in for the /, |
22 |
to see if it's the hardware somehow, but I have to find one first. |
