2 i'd say do this ... `nano /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask`
3 basically everything in there needs to be tested or is broken ...
4 if you see an entry like:

10 then simply delete the line '=net-misc ...'
11 and then run `emerge freeswan`
12 this process is called unmasking simply because you are
13 removing the file from the masking file ...

15 if you have troubles with the emerge, then post your results
16 to http://bugs.gentoo.org/ ... see if you can locate a previous
17 bug first that deals with the package ...
18 if it works well, then inform us (again via bugs.gentoo.org and
19 a previous bug entry) ... but if the package doesnt have a bug
20 entry, drop onto irc (irc.openprojects.net #gentoo & #gentoo-dev)
21 and msg the guy who masked the package with your results
