9 IMO, if you are testing with others without knowing the outcome yet,
10 then a mask does not make sense. This is actually another story of
11 broken workflow with a minor subplot in VCS.

18 Developer overlays are widely used. So yes, ~arch users will be testing
19 it, probably even arch users. It also limits the potential damage for
20 the user, because he can very easily toss out the crap by just
21 removing/masking the whole overlay instead of going on adventure reading
22 broken portage output.
