I'm seriously thinking about becoming a mentor this year. However, I'd |
27 |
like to apply for the imapfw project¹. imapfw aims at replacing |
28 |
OfflineIMAP in the long term. OfflineIMAP is a known application in the |
29 |
portage tree, I guess. I am the current "upstream" maintainer of both |
30 |
OfflineIMAP and imapfw. |
31 |
|
32 |
IOW, this GSoC project would not be a direct enhancement for the |
33 |
Gentoo's related stuff. It's just an app in the tree. Hence, why am I |
34 |
requesting you? It's mostly about audience and having this GSoC project |
35 |
more widely spread, especially to the students. Also, this could greatly |
36 |
help to find a backup mentor. |
37 |
|
38 |
I don't aim to take a slot in the GSoC in the name of Gentoo if you |
39 |
don't want to. In this case, I'd like to request you to add a final |
40 |
secion to your ideas page like "Other's projects you could like" (or |
41 |
something) and a link to our ideas page (not yet written). |
42 |
|
43 |
Little projects like ours usually have various difficulties for getting |
44 |
things done while our softwares are still appreciated by final-users |
45 |
needing them. For the GSoC, the worse blockers I can think of are: |
46 |
|
47 |
- having potential students know about us, our project and that we are |
48 |
recruiting too; |
49 |
- let know to the GSoC orgs we are not alone in the process and have |
50 |
some kind of support from bigger open communities. |
51 |
|
52 |
I hope you'll agree to help us a bit in this area. |
53 |
|
54 |
Anyone wanting to help me at making this GSoC successful is welcome. |
55 |
Also, I'm open to any advice. |
