Dang!

You got the PREEMPT right...... It/they was set and I don't know how. (You also got the hours of frustration and recompiles right - methodically stepping through various grsecurity configurations, looking for the problem.)

My biggest interest in 16r11 was frankly getting the updated DWEXT driver for WPA; and getting beyond the "mystery cancellation" issue (my chrooted browser is mysteriously cancelled after a few hours of use; an addressed issue with grsecurity) - which should be fixed by 16r11.

Happening to me on my desktop. :-(

...BUT.... My desktop is configured for both the desktop machine and my laptop (I copy the desktop partitions over to my laptop for use there for a month (twice a year); at which point I'll copy everything back to my DT). As I have a separate xorg.conf for my desktop which does not bring in the synaptics driver, I'd guess that it is not synaptics. However, it sure could be kernel support for common laptop hardware (e.g. USB_HID?).

I suppose that if everyone who had that problem posted their .config files (the active portions), one could look for common denominators and pass that info on to the Hardened Sources folks....... don't know how much interest there is in this

However, I'm guessing that you've figured out the cure. I recompiled without PREEMPT last night; noticed that it booted up very quickly, worked it a bit; up and healthy this noon (it would often fail overnight).

Still a little early to declare victory, but if it survives through tomorrow I'll start smiling big time!
