I can't say much on the reasons for your losing the gcc, |

but as to saving your system: |

you made a backup before --depclean, right? use it, or at least |

the gcc bit. or else take the gcc out of a dated backup and do |

a bootstrap. |

without backup, you can get a gcc binary from elsewhere (probably requiring |

the rest of the toolchain, too) and put it into the old gcc's place. |

then do a bootstrap, that is, compile gcc, glibc, and probably |

binutils for good measure for a couple times until the binaries |

do not change no more. for all practical purposes, three passes |

should do and you are back in business. |
