No idea why portage would want to remove gcc.... As for recovery though, |

if you have another system available, there is a way to build a binary |

package without actually compiling it, rather just sucking the files |

back up from the current system. Unfortunatly I don't remember how to do |

this, I thought it was an emerge option, or with the qpkg tool, but |

However if you can do that, then you could emerge that binary package on |
