7 No idea why portage would want to remove gcc.... As for recovery though,
8 if you have another system available, there is a way to build a binary
9 package without actually compiling it, rather just sucking the files
10 back up from the current system. Unfortunatly I don't remember how to do
11 this, I thought it was an emerge option, or with the qpkg tool, but
12 neither seem to be the one from my quick look.

14 However if you can do that, then you could emerge that binary package on
15 your broken host with the --usepkgonly option.
