Well, how about I actually give you guys some numbers, then? |

I am travelling to Linux World in San Francisco. For air fare and |
12 |
accommodations, I am spending about $1700 for myself. This is before |
13 |
food or entertainment. I am also staying in a hotel that I know to be |
14 |
one of the cheaper ones in the Union Square area of San Francisco, where |
15 |
the event is held. |
16 |
|
17 |
When I travelled to FOSDEM from the US, the flight alone was more than |
18 |
$1200. |
19 |
|
20 |
That being said, travel within Europe is much cheaper than any travel in |
21 |
the United States. However, I would have to agree with solar here. |
22 |
Getting together a bunch of people that will have a hard time |
23 |
communicating to each other when face to face, due to language barriers, |
24 |
won't help us do much of anything. |

While we definitely need more skills in our developer pool, I'd fear for |
31 |
my mother if there were 50 more of Mike. ;] |
32 |
|
33 |
Quite personally, I feel that we could do without many of the more |
34 |
"argumentative" developers that speak lots and *do* little. I am afraid |
35 |
that people have forgotten that it is not what you say, but what you do, |
36 |
as in actually contribute, that gives you merit in a meritocracy. (This |
37 |
isn't directed at anyone in particular, and definitely not anyone here, |
38 |
so don't anybody go reading into it or anything.) |
