1 A word of caution: using this variable to detect platform can have
2 unpredictable results when directing portage to download files from
3 alternative locations (i.e. get ppc binaries or x86 binaries, depending
4 on platform). There's still some work to be done here. If it fails (be
5 sure to test on x86 too), try the `arch` command that most of us have
6 been using (see, for example, the xanim ebuilds).
