A word of caution: using this variable to detect platform can have |

unpredictable results when directing portage to download files from |

alternative locations (i.e. get ppc binaries or x86 binaries, depending |

on platform). There's still some work to be done here. If it fails (be |

sure to test on x86 too), try the `arch` command that most of us have |
| 6 |
been using (see, for example, the xanim ebuilds). |
