try the R6 kernel, but no one on the ppc kernel dev team has yet gotten access to one of these so it might not work anyway, but a newer kernel would have a better chance.

If that doesn't work is there anyway you can get a serial port that we can get access to plug into the xserve? might be able to get one of the ppc devs to do the kernel things they need to remotely if you can get remote access to it via its serial port =)
