Dear Listmembers, |
2 |
|
3 |
Up to now I didn't succeed in installing Gentoo on a second ATA-harddrive of |
4 |
my G5 (1.8 GHz dual proc.) by using the iso-image gentoo-G5-2003-10-11. |
5 |
|
6 |
Keeping myself to the instructions in the Gentoo Installation Manual I get a |
7 |
boot prompt after restarting the Mac, and the booting-procedure starts right |
8 |
after I hit the return-key. Nevertheless, the booting procedure stopps very |
9 |
soon. |
10 |
The last three lines on screen are: |
11 |
|
12 |
SCSI device sda: 320173056 512-byte hwdr sectors (163929MB) |
13 |
SCSI device sda: drive cache: write through |
14 |
/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0:_ |
15 |
|
16 |
In the last line the booting process stopps for the first time at |
17 |
cursor-position, and some 20 seconds or so later the end of that line is |
18 |
filled by: |
19 |
|
20 |
<3>ata1: DMA timeout, stat 0x1 |
21 |
|
22 |
Subsequently there shows up a last line saying: |
23 |
|
24 |
ATA: abnormal status 0xD0 on port 0xF139601C |
25 |
|
26 |
After that the whole procedure stopps, only the fans of the processor |
27 |
coolers start to become extremely busy (and noisy). |
28 |
|
29 |
Both of the harddrives are ATA-drives, by the way, and I have no virus |
30 |
software running in the background. |
31 |
|
32 |
Did anyone of you experience the same or similar? Does anyone know a |
33 |
solution? I'll appprechiate any help! |
34 |
