Gentoo Linux is a versatile and fast distribution for x86, PowerPC, |
| 17 |
UltraSparc and Alpha systems that is geared towards Linux power |
| 18 |
users. Unlike other distros, Gentoo Linux has an advanced package |
| 19 |
management system called Portage. Portage is a true ports system in |
| 20 |
the tradition of BSD ports, but is Python-based and sports a number |
| 21 |
of advanced features including dependencies, fine-grained package |
| 22 |
management, "fake" (OpenBSD-style) installs, path sandboxing, safe |
| 23 |
unmerging, system profiles, virtual packages, config file management, |
| 24 |
and more. A completed Gentoo Linux installation is customized and |
| 25 |
optimized for your specific needs. |

Gentoo Linux features the latest, modern tools including Linux |

2.4.19+, gcc 3.2.1, LVM, EVMS, ext3, ReiserFS, XFS, Gnome, KDE, qmail |

named (not numbered) runlevels. |
