I remember when avenj first came into #gentoo oh so many years ago, and
then we he impressed g2boojum and me and a few others, that we made him an
op even without being a developer (yes, he was the first one!).

I remember so many conversations with Jon during that period -- we went
through a lot together as a small team. While Jon and I disagreed about a
few things, we always had a mutual respect for the other's opinion.

When Daniel asked me to create Developer Relations, Jon was the first
person I approached to collaborate with me. He influenced so much of the
way DevRel evolved (including the rules/policies, UserRel, and operational
things). He and I (and a number of others) rode out the infamous "fork"
together, and that experience bonded us like no other.

In private moments, outside of Gentoo things -- he was a very intelligent
man, full of insight, full of ideals, full of empathy.

Jon, you're gone to soon.

(Thank you, Roy, for making the announcement.)
