Friends, |
5 |
|
6 |
dynamic dependencies is a bug. We decided to fix this regression. I |
7 |
don't think this is a council issue. |
8 |
|
9 |
We will document how to prepare for the transition, to make sure that |
10 |
it causes as few problems as possible. We will announce the release |
11 |
that finally does disable dynamic dependencies as early as possible, |
12 |
so that tree hackers are well prepared for it. The reason we have not |
13 |
announced anything yet is because we want to have everything in place, |
14 |
both in terms of code and in terms of documentation. In other words, |
15 |
we want to have something substantial to show for ourselves, rather |
16 |
than start a -dev bikeshed over nothing. |
17 |
|
18 |
Please note that I am releasing a new version of Portage today. This |
19 |
release will *not* turn off dynamic dependencies. Turning off dynamic |
20 |
dependencies by default is not a change that will suddenly appear |
21 |
without anyone knowing. We have every intention of preparing tree |
22 |
hackers for it. |
