2 needs to depend on some perl cpan packages[1] that aren't in the tree.
3 Can ebuilds depend on g-cpan packages, or do I need to generate the
4 ebuilds via g-cpan and get them added to the tree?

11 [1] Specifically GeoIP2::Reader::Database, which depends on
12 MaxMind::DB::Reader, and potentially MaxMind::DB::Reader::XS if end up
13 supporting the version that uses the libmaxminddb backed version (which
14 is said to be 100x faster) than the pure Perl version supplied by
15 MaxMind::DB::Reader).
