I'm probably forgetting a bunch of things, but there has been some |
2 |
progress made on issues recently, so I wanted to note it here: |
3 |
|
4 |
New hardware: |
5 |
------------- |
6 |
As of today, we have a new box "kakapo", for the express purpose of |
7 |
hosting the large Git repository. Many thanks to one of our sponsors, |
8 |
Online Kredit Index, to being willing to increase their sponsorship to |
9 |
this degree. |

- Dual socket, quad-core Opteron 2346 HE |
11 |
- 16GB of RAM |
12 |
- 2x 750GB in LSI-based hardware RAID1 |
13 |
- Tyan S2927 motherboard |
14 |
- Physically hosted at OVH in France. |
15 |
|
16 |
The OS is installed, I just need to work on the gitosis system and |
17 |
gitweb, and move the gentoo-x86.git repo over. |
18 |
|
19 |
git initial clone memory consumption: |
20 |
------------------------------------- |
21 |
I managed to start a flame war on the upstream Git mailing list. While |
22 |
the early parts of it were bashing us for our choice to keep to a single |
23 |
repository, the discussion did later move to being productive, with 3 |
24 |
developers (including Linus himself) turning out patches to reduce |
25 |
memory usage. The first one was merged, with 10% improvement on it's |
26 |
own. I think the Linus ones are going to offer another 5-20%. |
27 |
Part of this is tied into the packfile v4 discussion, looks like we'll |
28 |
see nice disk usage improvements there as well. |
29 |
|
30 |
signed commits: |
31 |
--------------- |
32 |
No luck on this one yet. Linus seems against it, may have to produce an |
33 |
implementation on our own. |
34 |
|
35 |
thin Manifest: |
36 |
-------------- |
37 |
status unknown, anybody want to answer this? |
38 |
|
39 |
repoman git support: |
40 |
-------------------- |
41 |
Anything remaining in this? |
