I'm probably forgetting a bunch of things, but there has been some
progress made on issues recently, so I wanted to note it here:

New hardware:
-------------
As of today, we have a new box "kakapo", for the express purpose of
hosting the large Git repository. Many thanks to one of our sponsors,
Online Kredit Index, to being willing to increase their sponsorship to
this degree.
- Dual socket, quad-core Opteron 2346 HE
- 16GB of RAM
- 2x 750GB in LSI-based hardware RAID1
- Tyan S2927 motherboard
- Physically hosted at OVH in France.

The OS is installed, I just need to work on the gitosis system and
gitweb, and move the gentoo-x86.git repo over.

git initial clone memory consumption:
-------------------------------------
I managed to start a flame war on the upstream Git mailing list. While
the early parts of it were bashing us for our choice to keep to a single
repository, the discussion did later move to being productive, with 3
developers (including Linus himself) turning out patches to reduce
memory usage. The first one was merged, with 10% improvement on it's
own. I think the Linus ones are going to offer another 5-20%.
Part of this is tied into the packfile v4 discussion, looks like we'll
see nice disk usage improvements there as well.

signed commits:
---------------
No luck on this one yet. Linus seems against it, may have to produce an
implementation on our own.

thin Manifest:
--------------
status unknown, anybody want to answer this?

repoman git support:
--------------------
Anything remaining in this?
