You might take a look at the following forum thread:

A really great and complete HOWTO by Chris Atwood on 'How to do a gentoo
install on a software RAID'

You can use this HOWTO to do a gentoo install on normal IDE disks, SATA,
SCSI etc.

Except when you're using SATA you 'll have to pay attention to the
change of the disc devices when you reboot your system for the first time.

When you boot of the livecd, the SATA discs will be recognized as
/dev/hdxx, but once you've compiled your kernel with SATA support, the
devices will be recognized as /dev/sdxx. So don't forget to change your
/dev/hdxx entries in the /etc/raidtab file to /dev/sdxx before you reboot.

Hope this helps.
