I'm using gentoo-sources on an inbound mail pre-processor and it seems to work
just fine.

I'm running qmail/qmail-scanner, clamav, and spamassassin on a box that's just
a mail relay (i.e. no user accounts). Spamassassin does a good job of
scoring inbound email, so users can use filters on their mail clients to set
their own spam thresholds and rules. Clam doesn't have the largest virus
database, but it's pretty good, and it's free/open source. With the latest
barrage or Microsoft email worms/viruses, this open source deployment gained
a lot of respect from upper management at my company. The fact that it was
effective, and didn't cost anything other than hardware and some of my time,
and won't require perpetual license payments really caught their eye.

The spreadsheet that showed I saved them 5 man-years of lost personnel time in
the last year of running Spamassassin really got to them, too. :-)
