Hi all, |
2 |
|
3 |
Quick summary: Improve the performance of the Gentoo Linux mirrors by |
4 |
reducing the overall bandwidth load, allowing people to fetch binary |
5 |
patches from the mirrors, instead of the full source tarballs, when |
6 |
updating some package. This project is partially based on GLEP 25. |
7 |
|
8 |
The project is on schedule. |
9 |
|
10 |
== Progress == |
11 |
|
12 |
Last week I got a basic Portage patch working, and I can finally |
13 |
install packages from reconstructed tarballs. It needs some fine |
14 |
graining and improvements, though. |
15 |
I'm also writing a helper tool, called distpatchq, inspired by |
16 |
portageq, that will provide info about the deltas and distfiles to the |
17 |
package managers willing to implement distfile patching support. |
18 |
|
19 |
== Next steps == |
20 |
|
21 |
Finish the Portage patch improvements and send the patch for review. |
22 |
Finish distpatchq helper tool. |
23 |
Create a package for the distpatch helper tools and publish it. |
24 |
|
25 |
Best Regards, |
26 |
|
