Yes, that's what they are supposed to look like. Out of curiosity, what was the problem that had you hung up? A combination of whatever it is that startx complains about and the X log file at /var/log/Xorg.0.log should be enough to figure out what else needs to be done. You can look at the attached xorg.conf file for an example of one that works for me with a Creator framebuffer and a 2.6.20 kernel on four different systems. (Sun keyboard configuration and Creator setup might seem unusual if you are unfamiliar with them. Just about the only "options" the sunffb driver care about are DPMS and the screen depth, which must be specified and must be 24.)
