Hi Kurt,

The machines were working fine before they were shipped. It's possible that
they could have become damaged during shipment due to some rough handling.

It is not normal for the Itanium to be unstable -- I never had any such
problems. Make sure he is not trying to run X or do anything weird, because
the NVIDIA drivers and/or AGP on the Itanium definitely *are* unstable under
Linux. But the machine should be stable without X running.

It would also be a good idea to open it up and make sure that everything
(fans, RAM, etc.) is seated and functioning properly as things could have
gotten loosened up during transit. The Sparc never had problems, so I
imagine the hard drive died during shipping?

The AMD64 box should boot fine as well. If it stalls during start-up, just
boot in runlevel 1 and remove the nfs mounts from /etc/fstab.

It's hard to imagine that all three machines got injured during shipment.
They were always stable over here.

I have the receipts from UPS, and I believe I had a total of $14,000 of
insurance on the boxes ($10K for the Itanium 2 and $4K or so for the
Sparc64/AMD64 box.) If UPS needs to be contacted, I can do that.
