I've updated Plasma to 6.3.5 and had a 'Contact' icon appearing in the System
Tray, which is apparently put there by merkuro.contact. I don't need it, or
want it. I tried to remove it, by right clicking, selecting 'Edit or Manage
Widgets' and deleting/deselecting it from the widgets list.
So far so good, I thought, but then it came right back after I logged out/in.
Repeating this is pointless because the widget re-appears at every login.
I also tried deleting the two "org.kde.merkuro.contact.applet" entries in
~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc:
[Containments][7][General]
extraItems=org.kde.plasma.keyboardindicator,org.kde.plasma.vault,org.kde.plasma.notifications,org.kde.plasma.clipboard,org.kde.plasma.mediacontroller,org.kde.plasma.battery,org.kde.plasma.printmanager,org.kde.plasma.keyboardlayout,org.kde.plasma.manage-
inputmethod,org.kde.kscreen,org.kde.plasma.devicenotifier,org.kde.plasma.brightness,org.kde.kdeconnect,org.kde.merkuro.contact.applet
knownItems=org.kde.plasma.keyboardindicator,org.kde.plasma.vault,org.kde.plasma.notifications,org.kde.plasma.clipboard,org.kde.plasma.mediacontroller,org.kde.plasma.battery,org.kde.plasma.devicenotifier,org.kde.plasma.printmanager,org.kde.plasma.keyboardlayout,org.kde.plasma.manage-
inputmethod,org.kde.kscreen,org.kde.plasma.brightness,org.kde.kdeconnect,org.kde.merkuro.contact.applet
shownItems=org.kde.plasma.keyboardlayout
It *still* comes up in System Tray! O_O
Is there a way to stop Plasma shell from regenerating this unwanted
merkuro.contact widget every time it is launched?

Right-click on the triangle that pops open the list of applets, select
“Configure system tray” (not sure of the exact wording, I’m on a localised
KDE), and then select the “Items” page. Here you can hide it permanently.

Thank you Frank! Disabling it in the "Entries" list got rid of it.
