Hi there,

I just tried to rip an old DVD with k3b, but it says that it requires
transcode for this. AFAIR, transcode has been removed from portage a long time
ago, so how is this supposed to work now?

Thanks
	Alex

I came across the same popup when I tried to Use the "Rip Video DVD" function.
This is related to upstream bug(s):

If you select "Copy Medium" and enter a path to save it as an ISO image on
your drive, I expect it should work.

Since you say “rip” and mention transcode, I assume you’re talking about a
video DVD. If you want a 1:1 copy (leaving the copy protection in place),
just dd or ddrescue the disk into an ISO. To get an unecrypted copy of the
file structure, vobcopy is your guy. If you want a specific video title,
then makemkv is the way to go these days.

Yes, vlc and mpv can play an ISO directly.
