Hi, |
2 |
|
3 |
Is anyone out there using one of these laptops, or a machine using a |
4 |
similar S3 Savage graphics card. with framebuffer & a GUI, please? Most |
5 |
of my experience is with headless servers, and it leaves me a bit |
6 |
ill-equipped to deal with this, but I'd really like to sort this so I |
7 |
can access my email when I'm on holiday next month. |
8 |
|
9 |
I got X & KDE working fine under my original kernel, and then decided |
10 |
to get the framebuffer up. Because I wanted the fancy splashscreen I |
11 |
chose frambuffer-TNG and also emerged splashutils. That works fine, but |
12 |
X no longer starts, `startx` complaining of: |
13 |
Fatal server error: |
14 |
no screens found |
15 |
|
16 |
I'm currently using kernel 2.6.11-gentoo-r3 and xorg-x11 6.8.2-r1, but |
17 |
I'm assuming that upgrading these won't make any difference - surely my |
18 |
configuration is out, or this device simply can't run X on the new |
19 |
framebuffer? I have tried without the savagefb kernel option, with it |
20 |
selected as a module &c. |
21 |
|
22 |
My /etc/X11/xorg.conf still refers to the devices that were working |
23 |
perfectly before I compiled the framebuffer into the kernel, but I have |
24 |
no idea what to change these to: |
25 |
Section "Device" |

28 |

If anyone has a similar device I would be extremely grateful for a copy |
41 |
of their kernel .config & xorg.conf files. |
