[gentoo-user] new install using lxdeL no `run' cmd

After installing piles of X related pkgs including all the lxde pkgs:
  [I] lxde-base/lxde-common
  [I] lxde-base/lxde-icon-theme
  [I] lxde-base/lxde-meta

When pressing the all important `run' item in the lxde main menu (at
left of bottom panel), it does nothing more than flash the bottom panel.

It does not offer any dialog at all.

Although I've used lxde for 2 yrs or so.. and installed it a number of
times on gentoo and other distros, I've never had this problem before.

I'm guessing something is missing in the install... but have no idea
what it might be.

Any ideas?
