Ok the mystery continues. On another box, strider, "chage -l" works so |
2 |
this is what I did (don't try this at home): |
3 |
|
4 |
$ mkdir /tmp/strider_passwd |
5 |
$ scp strider:/etc/passwd /tmp/strider_passwd |
6 |
$ scp strider:/etc/shadow /tmp/strider_passwd |
7 |
$ mv /etc/passwd /etc/passwd.orig |
8 |
$ mv /etc/shadow /etc/shadow.orig |
9 |
$ mv /tmp/strider_passwd/passwd /etc |
10 |
$ mv /tmp/strider_passwd/shadow /etc |
11 |
$ ls -l /etc/passwd /etc/shadow |
12 |
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1314 2007-09-18 16:23 /etc/passwd |
13 |
-rw------- 1 root root 625 2007-09-18 16:23 /etc/shadow |
14 |
$ chage -l marduk |
15 |
chage: can't open password file |
16 |
|
17 |
I'm running out of ideas. This used to work up until about a month ago. |
18 |
|
19 |
BTW I was going to try also copying group/gshadow from strider but, oddly enough, |
20 |
strider doesn't have an /etc/gshadow. |
