Do you have x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev installed?

# equery files  x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev |grep '\.so'
/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/input/evdev_drv.so

That's the 'evdev' module that your X doesn't find.
