Hi All, |
2 |
|
3 |
A few months ago I bought a AMD RX 480 GPU and followed the Gentoo |
4 |
amdgpu guide and everything ran just fine with excellent graphics |
5 |
performance. |
6 |
|
7 |
At the weekend I upgraded my PC from a AMD 970 chipset to a x370 |
8 |
chipset (fx8300 to ryzen 1700x). |
9 |
|
10 |
I re-installed Gentoo but the first time I started the boot iso the |
11 |
screen froze, so I tried the nomodeset option and booted ok and |
12 |
installed as per usual. |
13 |
|
14 |
After rebooting to new install the screen froze again and the only way |
15 |
to get it to boot was using kernel option nomodeset. This then gave me |
16 |
another problem as it could not startx (no screens found). |
17 |
|
18 |
I checked the config of the kernel (inc firmware) and could not find |
19 |
an issue. I then tried arch/fedora/ubuntu and all froze at boot and then |
20 |
worked with nomodeset. |
21 |
|
22 |
I have now gone back to using an old graphics card which uses radeon |
23 |
and have no problems starting xorg-server. |
24 |
|
25 |
1) Is this likeley to be a kernel issue (amdgpu drm)? |
26 |
2) Could this be a firmware issue (amd)? |
27 |
3) Could this be a motherboard/processor issue? |
28 |
4) Can you think of any ways round this so I can use the RX 480 gpu |
29 |
|
30 |
Any thouhgts much appreciated. |
