Well, don't bother.  iscan doesn't build, period.

But you should really try xsane in the meantime.  You need to make sure
your scanner is recognized by scanimage -L (scanimage is part of the
sane-backends package, which you already have.)

If that doesn't work, try sane-find-scanner.
