9 I had exactly the same problem.

11 When I upgraded from 2.6.18 to 2.6.19, for some reason "make oldconfig" didn't
12 work (maybe my misunderstanding of it).

14 This meant that though I thought that the old settings were copied across, in
15 fact they weren't. I found the culprit of this to be that the default/generic
16 IDE controller wasn't enabled in the kernel. Try going through your kernel
17 config checking that your IDE/SATA controller is being built.
