You need a 64-bit environment to build 64-bit stuff but you can chroot into a stage3 for that. 17 I think they solved the problem with gcc-3.4.3-r1
18 The only problem is left is the Kernel Panic:

21 Every few packages it emerges it the machine hangs up on kernel panic.
