5 Ok, here's is what I found. Both my 32-bit GNOME boxes show about
6 70-80MB VIRT for gnome-panel.

21 However "free" shows only 643MB in total used (including buffers/cache)
22 with no swap. According to the top man page VIRT = SWAP + RES, but
23 obviously that doesn't add up. But the RES for gnome-panel is similar
24 on both my 32- and 64-bit machines. So I'm guessing something on the
25 64bit machines is getting reported/translated differently.
