Thanks Paul. I found a couple of sites with stuff like this but didn't |
15 |
try installing because I hate Windows installs where I don't think I |
16 |
know what's going on. I use these Windows machines to trade futures |
17 |
and don't want some lame brain installer to mess up my system. You |
18 |
know Windows. It's a mess and dangerous to install anything. I liked |
19 |
the Cygwin idea, even if it's not simple, because it seems that |
20 |
there's no odd Windows stuff getting installed other than Cygwin |
21 |
itself which I think is just a dll or two. |
22 |
|
23 |
Since Joerg has suggested that the problem is a combination of a long |
24 |
standing bug in the kernel (Really? That sort of thing is allowed to |
25 |
propagate?) combined with my drives which are Lite-On and Joerg says |
26 |
they have bad firmware, it seems to deal with the hang-up running |
27 |
readcd I need to do the work on this specific machine. On the other |
28 |
hand, if all I want to work on is the original topic - the bad CD |
29 |
copies - then I guess I could do that anywhere and it would be easier |
30 |
to just grab another Gentoo machine as it will have other drives. |
31 |
|
32 |
Anyway, thanks, |
33 |
Mark |
