8 Yes, that's true. I'm trying to remember some hoop I used to have to jump
9 through to get KDE started, but with this man-flu I've got I can't think of
10 anything. I'm almost sure I used to have to make an entry like kdeinit4 in
11 some file probably under /etc.

15 Maybe Alan has a .kde directory under $(HOME)? If so that's likely to cause
16 trouble on a non-KDE box.
