8 I did a bit more checking on this, and you are right, ggi is
9 definitely not the answer.

11 The ebuilds let the mplayer configure script autodetect for various
12 drivers. It also looks like mplayer changed the VESA driver for
13 1.0_pre8 [1] to depend upon the lrmi library and their own vesautils
14 stuff. Previous (pre7) versions did not.

16 The bad news is that while lrmi exists in the portage tree, there is
17 no ebuild for vesautils.
18 So for now if you want the vesa driver, you will have to stick with _pre7...
