Older version of portage had a cache of virtual ebuilds installed keeped |

on disk, newer portage (>= 2.51 I think) should generate it on demand. |

virtual is the gentoo way to keep track of what ebuild is installed and |

provide a certain functionality. |

Maybe there is something dirty in your /var/lib/portage/world file that |

in the virtual cache file. |
