What session manager are you using? The error described, typically means |

that upon login the audio devices were not reassigned to the user. If |

you do an ls -l /dev and ls -l /dev/snd, the owner should be the logged in |

user. I know Entrance does not properly re-assign the ownership. |

The other possibility is the user is not in the audio group of /etc/group |
