Can't help witht he first part.... for the second one: |
2 |
|
3 |
gentoo-user General Gentoo user support and discussion mailing list |
4 |
|
5 |
I think that sums it up nicely. It is the general board, meaning that it is |
6 |
for support of pretty much anything. The problem with the other ones is that |
7 |
they are really made for the certain subjects. gentoo-laptop is mostly for |
8 |
power management and pcmcia stuff, you (in theory) don't ask a question |
9 |
about portage in there even if it's running on a laptop - but if you have a |
10 |
specific question about a specific thing that is only on a laptop (such as |
11 |
pcmcia or an intel 2200 wireless network card), you will probably get better |
12 |
answers in there... of course they are also probably reading this one (well |
13 |
many of them) and it's not really an issue if you post it in here, in fact |
14 |
it will probably be solved pretty quickly. |
15 |
|
16 |
Gentoo-server is for talking about using Gentoo in production environments. |
17 |
That list has a lot of "How do I get my DNS to work correctly, it's not |
18 |
using my forward lookup zones", and hacks for portage for multi-admin |
19 |
setups, but you won't find much basic "How do I install" or "Why isn't it |
20 |
seeing this device?" (unless it's a server raid card or whatever). We don't |
21 |
get much of that in here. |
22 |
|
23 |
I really think it's fine, I think if you're on general list you should |
24 |
expect some culmination of general questions. If someone can't get the right |
25 |
help in here, they should try asking in the gentoo-subject and see if they |
26 |
get some more specific support. The IRC channel does it nicely... ask about |
27 |
a sparc and they'll say "Well I think this and this, but check in |
28 |
#gentoo-sparc and you'll probably find a better response". |
