Is it actually possible to make ssmtp's sendmail send all the mail
directed to my local 'root' account to a real email address, such as
the one I'm sending this email from (ploujj@×××××.com)? If not, would
my best bet be to install Postfix?

I tried this in /etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf

root=ploujj@×××××.com

If I do this, I don't see any mail in my gmail inbox.
If I don't set it, I keep getting emails from
mailer-daemon@××××××××××.com saying:

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

root@my-local-hostname

-----
This is my /etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf:

mailhub=smtp.gmail.com:587
UseTLS=YES
UseSTARTTLS=Yes
AuthUser=ploujj
AuthPass=gmail-pass
FromLineOverride=YES
-----

I also learned that /etc/ssmtp/revaliases is not the right place to
configure what I want.

Is this mailing list a good place to ask this question?

Thanks.
