1 I just got Verizon's fios and love the high bandwidth. But I can't get
2 my gentoo laptop fully connected through a wireless connection. Has
3 anyone been through this already? Here are the highlights:

5 - I'm using a Verizon supplied an Actiontec router which includes
6 wireless and seems to be a pretty nice linux based router.

8 - a Nintendo Wii makes a wireless connection and accesses internet sites
9 fine, so the Verizon-provided Actiontec router seems to be set up ok.

11 - the gentoo laptop requests (via "dhcpcd eth1") and receives an ip
12 address from the router's WAP. I thought I'd be home free at this
13 point, but not so.

15 - using wireshark to watch a "ping 192.168.1.1" I can see a 192.168.1.1
16 ARP packet tell the laptop its mac address, then the laptop starts to
17 send out a ICMP echo requests...and gets no response. Firewall settings
18 in the router are at the minimal setting for this test.

20 - my laptop connects fine to my neighbor's WAP and reaches the internet.
21 So if it weren't for the Wii successfully connecting and getting out
22 I'd say the firewall is to blame. I get the same symptoms trying to
23 access web sites or even https://192.168.1.1 which is set up for this
24 test to allow me to administer via wireless.
