[gentoo-user] Space problems

Hi, after doing a rm /usr/portage/distfiles* and rm -r /var/tmp/portage/*
because disk was full, i get the following message and cannot initialize the
computer.
tar xda cannot mknod...
and
since this is a critical task startup cannot continue

i need some advice in what to do in this situation to make the computer work
again.
