Yes, it does look like the gateway changes all the message-ids, which is
stupid since it renders them useless as ids.  Hopefully it
would convert them back if he replies via the gateway, as you
say.

But switching to gmane for NNTP access would solve the problem a bit
more thoroughly, since it doesn't alter the message-ids in the first
place.
