5 Not necessarily. The meta packages are there to pull in a whole
6 group of packages, so you don't have to name them all separately.
7 But if you just use a few parts of KDE, you would install just
8 those parts. They will still pull in a lot of dependencies, but
9 not everything KDE under the sun.

11 But back to the segfaults... Seeing that it also segfaulted on
12 kdepim, this really looks like overheating. Or like bad RAM. Make
13 sure your fans and vents are free of dust, that connectors and RAM
14 modules are well seated. Debian or Red Hat might run without a
15 problem, but compiling really heats up a CPU and uses all of the
16 memory.
