I would probably do these in a slightly safer manner: |

emerge --unmerge utempter && emerge --update libutempter |

Then I'd go ahead with emerge -uDav. If your machine decides to crash in the middle, and you've unmerged pam-login, but haven't emerged the new shadow, you won't be able to log in. Utempter might not be quite as devastating, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. :) |
