Unfortunately, I am not quiet because I'm busy working on a Gentoo
cluster, though I wish I was. Perhaps one of my graduate students can
pick-up the task of looking at a small Gentoo cluster. I am excited at
the prospect of using Gentoo for clusters for the optimization. However,
the cluster management tools really need to be there, in force, to get
me to move away from what I use today.

Perhaps one aspect of this list, just to get things perked up a bit,
could be a discussion of adding to the Gentoo HPC How-To. I think this
is a great first start, but it is very, very basic. The biggest part of
managing clusters is managing them _as_ a cluster: log collection, node
monitoring and event reporting, cluster node rebuilds, software
management, user management, high-performance filesystems, compiler
management, user environment management and updates, backups, and the like.

With the extreme flexibility Gentoo offers, it would be impossible to
discuss all of the possibilities for all of what I mention above.
However, picking current best-of-breed applications and adding them to
this document would add value to the project.

Just some thoughts.

| Sometimes when lists are quiet, that means everyone on them is busy
| working instead of talking. =)
