Hello. I have got a Laserjet 3015 with LPT port plugged on my UltraSparc |
2 |
5. I installed cups, the printer doesn't work. |
3 |
|
4 |
trying to figure out the reason... |
5 |
1) this command hangs there forever |
6 |
$ cat test.txt > /dev/lp0 |
7 |
2) installed the printer on CUPs, selected the first parallel port |
8 |
(parallel:/dev/lp0), send a test page, on the webpage it shows: |
9 |
Printer State: processing, accepting jobs. |
10 |
And hang there forever. |
11 |
|
12 |
I attached the dmesg file. The kernel is compiled with only PC-style |
13 |
parallel port support enabled, but since /dev/lp0 is successfully |
14 |
detected, I suppose U5 might be using a PC-style parallel port. |
15 |
|
16 |
I tried two different cables, both behave exactly the same. The two |
17 |
cables are from different brands, there are no printed label like |
18 |
'bi-directional' on the cables, so I got no way to know if the cables is |
19 |
qualified. |
20 |
|
21 |
Printer tested working fine using USB port. |
22 |
|
23 |
P.S. a small question: if I have the option to use Postscript or PCL (as |
24 |
both are possible for this type of printer and for cups), which one |
25 |
would result faster print speed? I guess perhaps the tigher format can |
26 |
result faster print speed because the bottonneck should be LPR port |
27 |
speed. And how slow do you suppose is LPR compare to USB for this |
28 |
printer? |
29 |
