6 You're wrong. The pre-merge stage is only needed once. The kmerge and
7 post-kmerge is needed for each kernel. Of course, it might be that over
8 time things have changed enough that we no longer need to run the
9 post-kmerge after each run, but we'd need to determine if that's the
10 case or not.
