Actually... I was wrong... I *thought* we had extended that
functionality, but it doesn't look like we have.

Anyway, the portdir_overlay is an actual overlay onto the portage tree,
not a separate overlay that is used by portage itself.

By the way, this is why I don't use the thing.  I *always* simply edit
the portage tree before making the snapshot.
