All,

we are getting closer to being able to deprecate
/etc/init.d/functions.sh, but I have a couple of questions I need input
from this list about. They are in the comment of the bug [1].

The first is about /etc/init.d/functions.sh. That link is not needed at
all by scripts in OpenRc. It was only there to provide backward
compatibility for non-OpenRc scripts, which at the time, were gentoo
tools only.

So, should I change it in OpenRc from a symlink to a script that prints
out an ewarn to let people know it will be deprecated? If so, I can't
refer to anything that is gentoo related, so it would just say please
stop sourcing this file.

The second question is about the rc_nocolor variable. This is an
undocumented variable which can be set in /etc/rc.conf to force OpenRc
to not use color in its output. Is this something that should be carried
over to gentoo-base-functions? Also, is it worth a config file in /etc
for one variable?

Thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

William
