Check out glis.sourceforge.net. It is a series of bash scripts that reads its 
configuration from another bash script that is nothing but variable declarations. GLIS 
does everything from setting up your install network environment on the LiveCD to your 
final configuration such as modifying /etc/rc.conf. It is still a work in progress and not 
very user friendly, but I am working on a bash/dialog frontend to aid in the creation of 
the config file. Its almost there, but still needs a bit of work.
